2023: Only South-East Presidency will guarantee national stability ― Chidoka

Former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, Tuesday, called on the country’s five geo-political zones to give the 2023 presidency to the South East, coming in 2023, to avert a severe nation political crisis.

The former Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, said South-East Presidency would guarantee the unity, cohesion and political stability of the country even as he warned of the dire consequences in settling for another zone.

Chidoka, who spoke while reviewing the book “A Political History of Modern Nigeria: Words and Thoughts of Mbazulike Amechi” by First Republic Minister Mbazulike Amechi, insisted that the two major parties, the People’s Democratic Party, the PDP, and All Progressive Congress, APC, should honor the zoning practice and zone the 2023 South-East presidency.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Okafor, Chidoka said: “I crave your indulgence to use the words of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, used in an advertorial where they warned President (Goodluck) Jonathan not to contest the 2011 election, to sound a note of warning that, “If the country’s two major political parties do not continue in the tradition of the agreed rotation, they will undermine the peace and tranquillity of Nigeria. Failure to incorporate the South East in the 2023 calculations will be ill-conceived, ill-advised, and definitely divisive”.

Chidoka observed that the South East has always been committed to the country as a whole’s peace, harmonious coexistence, mutual understanding, economic development, social and political well-being, saying it is time for narrow-minded people in other parts of the world to drop their misplaced mistrust of Ndigbo and aspire to dominate the politics of unity.
